We left Bakar a few days ago, the most important preparations having been made by S-O in the days preceeding my arrival and whilst I was in London.
Our first stop was
Beli on Cres after 3,5 hrs´motoring. Sometimes there is just no wind or as is more often the case the wind comes from the front no matter whichever way you´re heading. Arsen at the boatyard had recommended Beli for it´s Griffon vulture rescue centre a kilometer´s walk from the harbour. The harbour itself has no facilities and we moored alongside a low brick pier at a 90deg angle to the ferry mooring site. After a quick snack in one of the two small cafés we left.
It was a hot day and a strenuous uphill walk to the centre. We paid 50kuna for our ticket and took the short walk along the path leading through a small botanical garden. A delightful setup for the smallest of children. We learned that the Eurasien vultures are rescued, most often after crashing into the sea, and are released into the wild once they have gained wieght and are fit. Several were nevertheless permanent residents after ef
forts to reintroduce them into the wild have failed. As we passed the information desk on leaving, the dog we had stepped over at the entrance just 10 minutes earlier attacked a visitor, biting hin on the leg!!
We returned to the boat to find the ferry in dock less than a meter from our aft! The wind had picked up, so we waited for it to leave before making off for Krk.
Captain of the ship, looking pleased with himself.
With the wind still against us, we motored for 2,5hrs to the small tourist town of Krk. Here we had access to electricity and water, but no other amenities for 180k.
In the morning of 1st July, the winds were in our favour at 7-8 m/s and we were able to sail to Rab. The sky darkened whilst out and winds increased to 13-14 m/s and our happy captain
was delighted to see the boat reaching speeds of
9-10 knots.
Delightful! Sounds like you were very lucky to escape that dog... Glad you got some good sailing done, keep us updated! :)
